Building Sound Testing
RNI Testing provides comprehensive acoustic testing services to ensure that your building meets all necessary sound insulation standards.
Under UK building regulations, buildings must be tested before completion to prove that they meet Part E standards.
Residential dwellings and commercial buildings that require sound testing in-line with Building Regulations Part E include:
Houses and flats
Classrooms in schools
Commercial buildings
Sound testing can be performed as an airborne test or an impact test. Airborne sound tests use a sound source, amplifier and loudspeaker to produce noise in one room. Noise measurements are taken in this room and receiver rooms using microphones.
An impact sound test uses a tapping machine to drop weights onto the floor of an upper room. The noise level, reverberation time, and background levels in the lower room are measured and calculated.
Air Tightness Testing
RNI Testing offers comprehensive air tightness testing services for buildings throughout the UK.
Air tightness testing measures how much air is lost through leaks in a building’s fabric. It is often called air leakage testing or air pressure testing. Residential properties that are greater than 500 m2 must have air tightness testing done in order to comply with UK building regulations and standards. All new UK must have an air test carried out as part of the approved document Part L.
During an air tightness test, you will need to vacate the building and give our team access. We use blower fans to pressurise the building and test differences in pressure. The fan depressurises the house to -60Pa. An anemometer is used to read the internal pressure, external pressure, and how hard the fan is working. We can then calculate air leakage.
Ventilation Testing Services
RNI Testing provides professional ventilation testing services throughout the UK.
Ventilation testing ensures the proper configuration of a building’s ventilation systems and that they can maintain good airflow.
Part F (England & Wales), Section 3 (Scotland) and Part K (Northern Ireland) of The Building Regulations mandate ventilation testing. New build dwellings and some conversions are required to have ventilation testing. Ventilation testing is done using UKAS-calibrated equipment operated by one of our registered engineers.
